Rehearsals, and sectionals, and retreat, oh my!

As we approach our departure date for tour, the Hive has been a-buzz with excitement and extra sectional rehearsals.  During the weeks leading up to tour, we’ve had at least five sectional rehearsals led by members of the choral scholars program in addition to our regular biweekly rehearsals, giving us a chance to work more intimately on specific melodic phrases, complex rhythms, unfamiliar language, and memorization. However, most of our growth as a group happens during our off-campus retreats, where we focus more on balance, our sound, and strengthening our community.

First-year choirbees bonding over cookies

This semester’s retreat was filled with extra surprises as the choirbees rehearsed in an unconventional location, (one might even say we were flushed with excitement) making music and strengthening our group dynamic at the Watertown Plumbing Museum.

Lunch Break!

We spent the day adding momentum to phrases, working on word stress, defining the unique character of each piece, and blend, all while fueled by fruit snacks. Retreat was a quirky and fun day, and it gave us an opportunity to appreciate our conductor, our repertoire, and our growth as an ensemble. We look forward to sharing all of our growth with you as we plunge into Tour 2019!
