Choirbee of the Week: Monica Groth '19

This week we are celebrating our very own Monica Groth '19! She was elected to be our Choirbee of the Week because she courageously puts forth her best effort during rehearsal, owning her mistakes and proudly singing out. We asked this confident musician a few, fun questions to get to know her better!

1. Where are you originally from?
Upstate, NY. A little town called Aurora in the Finger Lakes Region. Best home on Earth.

2. What is your major?
American Studies with Chemistry Minor and (if possible) Marine Studies Concentration.

3. Who is your all-time favorite musical artist?
ABBA!

4. What is a song that always gets stuck in your head?
*Thank You for The Music* -ABBA

5. What is your favorite piece the Choir has performed this year? Why?
I really love "Only in Sleep." It is beautiful and yet haunting, reminding me childhood is ephemeral. I tear up every time we sing it (and we do it so beautifully).

6. Who is your personal hero/heroine?
Samwise Gamgee.

7. What is your favorite spot to hang out on campus?
Hmm..likely the Art and Music Libraries.

8. What is something you can't live without?
Earl Grey tea.

9. What's your favorite food?
This has only just begun to change...I love Greek Moussaka and Kiwis and raspberries most but I have a real soft spot for couscous now.

10. If you could have fancy brunch with anyone (living or dead) who would it be and why?
I think I'd have to say Abraham Lincoln. I devoured DKG's book Team of Rivals and would want to better understand the inner workings and complexities of Civil War Era politics.

11. What movie could you watch over and over?
Lord of the Rings (any one of them).

12. If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go?
New Zealand.

13. What is your favorite thing about the Wellesley College Choir?
The individual talent of each singer who makes it up.

14. What is your favorite word?
Psychedelic.

15. Something people wouldn't guess by looking at you is:

I am a real old salt sailor--worked the rigging of an 1812 warship last fall.
