Musical Sightseeing in Porto
We woke up yesterday prepared for a whole day of sightseeing around Porto. Most of us started the day with a visit to Casa da Musica, which is a new Modernist concert hall. Kendall (our concert manager) managed to get us a special tour in English, which was much appreciated. We had the opportunity to sing a few songs throughout the tour. The highlight was a performance of the Wellesley College Alma Mater in a room that was covered in green foam pyramids. We spent the rest of the day sightseeing, which included a visit to the Church of St. Francis, as well as a visit to the 19th century stock exchange, a former palace. Both were beautiful, and our tour guide Sergio did a fantastic job telling us all about them. We then headed to the river to take a boat cruise. Our boat trip involved singing many musical numbers taken from the last few years of choir repertoire. The boat dropped us across the river from Porto in Gaia, where we explored a bit before dinner at a lovely little restaurant on the water. After dinner, we made our way back to the hotel to prepare for our departure to Lisbon in the morning.
