It's a bird...it's a plane...it's the CHOIRBEE OF THE WEEK!!! 👀💛

What's the buzz?? It's time for...CHOIRBEE OF THE WEEK!

This week's buzzing bee is Audrea Huang '22, our first BEETURNER of the year to claim this honor. Audrea is a CS/Math double major (wow!) studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark this term. This is also her THIRD year in Wellesley's choral program. Not only is she an extremely talented coder who somehow still has the leftover time and talent to be an incredible musician with us in Choir and (last year) in Chambers, but she is always giving her all at every rehearsal!! We so appreciate her dedication to both groups over the years and her smooooth alto vocals.

What is your name and what are your pronouns?
"Audrea (she/her/hers)"

What are your rose (great memory), bud (what you’re looking forward to), and thorn (not so great memory) from Term 2?
"Rose: Eating inside a restaurant with other Wellesley students Bud: Vespers! Although we can't walk with fire in the chapel this year, I'm still excited to record a virtual concert for the community. Thorn: Not getting to sing with everyone in person :("

What has been your favorite part of choir so far?
"Choir has introduced me to some of my best friends, with whom I can geek out over rich harmonies and bop to Personent Hodie and Vivaldi's Gloria (especially Domine Fili Unigenite). Rehearsals with them are always my favorite part of the day, filled with unexpected references (everything loops back to the Aglepta trolls) and beautiful moments of raw and vulnerable connection through music. Through choir, I've found a home to which I can't wait to return."

How does this year compare to your other years in choir?
"What I miss most about previous years of choir (besides actual human connection) is mingling before rehearsal and bracing the cold together afterwards to get late dinners from Stone-Davis and Lulu. Although this year's conditions have scattered us around the globe, I've felt closer to more people due to frequent social events. Through guest speakers, this year has also presented greater opportunities to learn from a wide range of perspectives and experiences of folks in choral, ensemble, and music literature spaces."

What has been the best and hardest part of being in Denmark??
"Thus far, the best part of Denmark has been the ability to explore the city through its food. Especially after completely isolating in my apartment for the first week and quarantining at home in the States for months on end, it's been extremely refreshing to breathe the crisp, cool air outside and taste the new culture (when I'm not worried about getting hit by a bike). I'm definitely still getting used to seeing — and accepting the reality of — the sheer magnitude of people on the streets without masks."

If you could take me anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
"Copenhagen! I would love to show you around the colorful city with all its lovely food markets."
