The 38th Baum Memorial Concert
During the weekend of March 30th the Wellesley College Choir had the pleasure of hosting the Cornell University Glee Club for a performance of Rachmaninoff's Vespers, All-Night Vigil. After nine hours of joint rehearsal on Friday and Saturday we pulled together an amazing performance for our concertgoers. I can happily say that all of the 100+ singers were also very proud of our performance. It was a treat for the Wellesley College Choir to sing with such an amazing group and we cannot wait for our next collaboration with the Cornell University Glee Club. Please see below for some photos, testimonials, and video clips from the weekend.
Next up for the Wellesley College Choir: a performance at Spring Open Campus, a performance at a retirement community, and a joint-performance with a visiting choir. Remember to check back to hear about what we’re up to!
Our performance is on youtube!
“Singing Rachmaninoff's All Night Vigil was an extraordinary experience and one that I won't ever forget. I absolutely love the music, and I think both the Wellesley College Choir and the Cornell Glee Club did an amazing job with it. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to sing this piece with such a wonderful group of people and such a talented conductor before I graduate.” (Sarah Larson, WCC '12)
"Singing a collaborative work is always one of the highlights for the Cornell University Glee Club's academic year. We look forward to collaborations because, well, it's hard to sing a co-ed piece with just guys. On a more serious note, working with another group and another conductor for a weekend is a great learning experience for any musician. And then there's the concert. With our notes learned, our Russian (almost) mastered, and many successful rehearsals, we produced a very memorable and meaningful performance. Even though a majority of the weekend was dedicated to creating great music together, we still had the opportunity to spend some quality time with the Wellesley College Choir. The reception that was held afterward in the Pendleton Atrium included pink flamingoes of multiple varieties, Happy Birthday Rachmaninoff cakes, and multiple musical performances. The Cornell University Glee Club had a great time, put on a great concert with the Wellesley College Choir and Dr. Graham, and started friendships that’ll last a lifetime."
